Orange County Animal Care had a big turnout Saturday for its annual Forever Friends for Free.

Director Ryan Drabek reported Monday that 144 pets were adopted to new families: 79 dogs, 63 cats, and 2 rabbits.

“It was incredible to see such support from the community,” Drabek said. “We had a long wait line for adoptions all day.”

Pet adoption fees were waived with the exception of the license and microchip fees.

The event is made possible by a donation from the Angels Baseball Foundation, which raised money last fall for both the shelter and the foundation.

Angels second-baseman Howie Kendrick and his wife, Jody, spearheaded the fundraising event; both were at the event Saturday.
