One rainy day, female peep threw a yellow tennis ball for me in the garage. Back and forth I ran, bouncing and bobbing my way back to her with the ball in my mouth. Then she switched to a furry stuffed bear. I liked that even better. We had fun that day and we began to build a trust between us.

She figured a puppy needed lots of exercise, and she also believed in the adage: “A good dog is a tired dog.” Most often that’s true, as it was with the big dog Rex when he was a pup. What I liked to do most when I first got here was chew. Foster Mom brought a little bone with me and I gave that a vigorous gnawing. But sometimes, there were other things that enticed me.

Like reading glasses. I like the black plastic ends. And Daddy had a few wooden ducks from when he was in the Duck Hunters Club or something. These wooden beady-eyed creatures sat around on the carpet in the family room staring at me, so one day I decided to bite their beaks off. I tried and tried, but the best I could do was leave little piles of splinters lying there.

Female peep bought me a lime green dragon-like thing with a squeaker in it; I got soft, furry-covered ducks for Christmas, and Rex didn’t mind that I played with his green banana. I do love that thing–it’s the perfect size for me.

But there were other items I took a fancy to — a little pair of scissors, the remote control, slippers, sandals, an emery board. But what I love the absolute most, if you can believe it, is post-it notes. The little ones in a pad. They’re up on top of the desk in the office, just sitting there. There’s a sofa near the desk and it’s easy to jump from one to the other, so I hop up there, grab the post-it notes and dash back into the family room, toss them up in the air, catch them, then toss them again. By the time anyone nabs me, those post-it notes are gooey history.

Yup, give me “Something to Chew On” and I’m a happy camper.

Charlie, I hope you didn’t get any splinters down your throat! Be careful what you chew!

Missed reading about you while on vacation…

      Susan,
Nope, no splinters down my throat. The remote control is plastic (they don’t make things like they used to) and the slippers are just chewy fabric. I don’t really chew things that much, just gum they a lot. : o )
Hope you have a great weekend!

Oh my, you surely do rock, Charlie Bear, I am wondering at times if your dad & my mom (real dogs) had met somewhere along the way somewhere and had not been fixed, but they could not have been fixed or there would not have been no us, would there? We like the same things, like to do basically the same things, and we also seem to favor each other. Maybe in the sometime distance future we will find out, huh, wouldn’t that be fun? Maybe your peep mom would like to do a genealogical work-up on us, huh?!! Well i am fixing to go and see if i can beg some ‘people food’ to eat while my ‘peep moms’ are stuffing their faces; so “be good”, Charlie Bear, and i’ll see you on the flip side.

    Hugs & woofs,
    Beaugie..

      Beagie,
Nice to hear you and me are the same! I stare up into my peeps’ eyes for people food, but they rarely give it to me. Hope you are luckier than me.
Yup, Beaugie, see you on the flip side,

Good thing you’re not teething, Charlie Bear. My teeth hurt something fierce when they came in and my peep got kinda miffed when I chewed the edges on every door in the house. Wasn’t too happy when I turned half a footstool into toothpicks either. But now I have great teeth!

      Clue,
Oh, man — half a footstool? You’ve got a big one up on me! Sometimes those little teeth of mine just gotta gnaw on something! Glad our peeps understand (kind of) and love us anyway.
      Woofs to you,
      Charlie Bear

Charlie Bear, Maybe your peep should change your name to “Chewy Bear.” I don’t have a chewing problem, but that’s because I’m older and my teeth are worn down and some have fallen out. In fact, I swallow most of my food whole. I love you, Charlie Bear. Yours truly, Honey Bunny.

      Dear Honey Bunny,
That’s funny. I love it! Call me “Chewy Bear!” One night female peep was at some fancy-schmancy dinner where they served veal meat around a round, hard bone. I think it was called Buca de Bepa or something. Anyway, she brought the bone home for me, and MAN, it was delicious.
Have a great day! And thanks for commenting.

add those to: Foster Dad’s retainer, Foster Dad’s glasses, living room coffee table edge, Foster Mom’s grandmother’s school teacher desk, Foster family’s teak patio furniture arms (do you remember how most furniture ended up covered in tin foil?)…
oh Charlie, I thought you were over that puppy chewing phase. Guess not!

      Foster Mom,

I’m sorry I ate everything at your place. I think the school teacher desk from your grandmother was the tastiest. Or maybe the teak patio furniture. I didn’t care for the foil, though. : o (

I even chewed up my new female peep’s books in the office, but just the tops.

I’m trying hard not to chew anything else, but I’ll bet female peep goes out and buys a big roll of foil now!

      Wiggles and wobbles,
      Charlie Bear
