One rainy day, female peep threw a yellow tennis ball for me in the garage. Back and forth I ran, bouncing and bobbing my way back to her with the ball in my mouth. Then she switched to a furry stuffed bear. I liked that even better. We had fun that day and we began to build a trust between us.
She figured a puppy needed lots of exercise, and she also believed in the adage: “A good dog is a tired dog.” Most often that’s true, as it was with the big dog Rex when he was a pup. What I liked to do most when I first got here was chew. Foster Mom brought a little bone with me and I gave that a vigorous gnawing. But sometimes, there were other things that enticed me.
Like reading glasses. I like the black plastic ends. And Daddy had a few wooden ducks from when he was in the Duck Hunters Club or something. These wooden beady-eyed creatures sat around on the carpet in the family room staring at me, so one day I decided to bite their beaks off. I tried and tried, but the best I could do was leave little piles of splinters lying there.
Female peep bought me a lime green dragon-like thing with a squeaker in it; I got soft, furry-covered ducks for Christmas, and Rex didn’t mind that I played with his green banana. I do love that thing–it’s the perfect size for me.
But there were other items I took a fancy to — a little pair of scissors, the remote control, slippers, sandals, an emery board. But what I love the absolute most, if you can believe it, is post-it notes. The little ones in a pad. They’re up on top of the desk in the office, just sitting there. There’s a sofa near the desk and it’s easy to jump from one to the other, so I hop up there, grab the post-it notes and dash back into the family room, toss them up in the air, catch them, then toss them again. By the time anyone nabs me, those post-it notes are gooey history.
Yup, give me “Something to Chew On” and I’m a happy camper.
