B.J. here. Before Charlie Bear gets to speak again, I’d like to tell you something.

If I knew then what I know now….well, I’ll let you be the judge of the outcome.

Charlie Bear 1

Five years ago Charlie Bear came to live with us. His foster mom and rescuer brought his bed, food, toys, and lots of instructions for his care. Charlie Bear was about 14 months old, and well, he had quite a history.

We were smitten by his adorable photograph, but were we ready to add a new dog to our household? Our primary concern was Rex, our resident dog. He was 10 years old and comfortable being the only dog. We had recently lost our two 15+ year-old cats that he lived with. Rex was socialized with other dogs via doggie day care, outings to the beach and the park, and occasional overnight stays of family members with their dogs, but Rex didn’t have to share his domain with another resident dog.

We also weren’t sure about raising a puppy again. Heck, Rex was a ton of work! But he was also a ton of love.

There are many specific internet sites dedicated to certain breeds, but we started our search here www.adoptapet.com. That’s where we found Charlie Bear. And the story continues….

CALL-OUT: Share with us YOUR rescue/adoption story along with your pet’s photograph. Send via email to: bj@bjtaylor.com. Your story and photo could be featured at the end of an upcoming “If I Knew Then…” post.

Tell us if you’ve ever fallen for a dog and how it was for you.

All the best,
B.J. along with Wiggles & Woofs from Charlie Bear!

Ohhh, beautiful Rex. He looks so much like Clyde.

I guess our rescue dog story would have to be about Ellie, my daughter’s Morkie. We’ve never been little dog people. I’ve had friends tell me how different they are. I just had no clue–until Katie’s husband, a police officer, began training a police dog. And they decided it might be better for Ellie if she came to our house to live.

There’s lots more to her story! Love this idea. xo
