This is Charlie Bear. He came to live with us on Saturday. His foster mom and rescuer brought his bed, food, toys, and lots of instructions for his care. Charlie Bear is about 14 months old, and well, he has quite a history; but we’ll let him tell you about it in another post.

Love at First Sight or Something Else? This post from October 2009 http://bit.ly/cE5gzH is the story of another special dog that I fell for 30 years ago. Three weeks ago, when we saw Charlie Bear’s photo online, we were smitten too.

Female Dog or Male Dog? When we first started looking at pictures and bios of dogs available for adoption, we asked ourselves: What age are we looking for? What breed? Male or female? The internet makes it super easy to do research ahead of time. This post from September 2010 http://bit.ly/bIDabB gave us a place to start.

Adding a New Dog to the Household Our primary concern was Rex, our resident dog. He’s 10 years old and comfortable being the only dog in our household. We recently lost our two 15+ year-old cats that he lived with. Rex was socialized with other dogs via doggie day care, outings to the beach and the park, and occasional overnight stays of family members with their dogs, but Rex didn’t have to share his domain with another resident dog. We wanted to do it right. This post from August 2010 has many helpful tips.  http://bit.ly/97SXoJ

We also weren’t sure about raising a puppy again. Heck, Rex was a ton of work! But he’s also a ton of love. In the next post I’ll share some things we talked about specifically when it came to puppyhood.  : )

In the meantime, the following links will help you get started if you’re thinking about adopting:

www.bestfriends.org They have wonderful information on all things pets, as well as a link to adoptable pets.

www.adoptapet.com This is where we went to find our newest addition. There are many rescue sites specific to certain breeds as well. The internet is a fabulous tool for doing your homework.

And last, Charlie Bear has his own take on all of this. Watch for an upcoming post.

QUESTION FOR YOU: Do you have an adoption story to share?

This is Lucky. Michele told me, “We found Lucky when she was six weeks old in a McDonalds parking lot. We’ve since had her for four years.  Cute and such a SWEET personality.  Here she is smiling as we took her on a boat ride this  summer on Long Lake in Wisconsin. Fun! Twelve pounds – she’s a Tibetan spaniel and maybe something else mixed in.  :).  Blessings!”

I’d say both of them are quite lucky! Don’t you think?

How absolutely adorable and sweet he is, BJ. And what fun for you to blog about his life with you as Jen & family adjust to Crosby 🙂 A wonderful gift, friend.

Jean, this little pooch felt so right from the very first time we saw his picture. Hubby and I agreed he was “the one.” Can’t wait to share Charlie’s view on the blog. He has a lot to say! Thanks for the comment!

Shawnelle, that adorable little face is sound asleep in his sheepskin bed on the floor in my office here by my computer. He just emitted a big little sigh in his sleep. Wonder what he’s dreaming of?

Aw, B.J. — he’s as cute as a button. I look forward to hearing more about him. (And about how Rex is feeling about the new addition.)

Karen, thanks for the comment! Rex is doing GREAT with Charlie. Rex is a mellow man….and very open to this new creature in his domain! I’m so happy about that!

It’s beyond me how some people can be so cruel
to innocent animals. Bless you for saving this lucky
angel and making hime smile everyday.

Noelle, so true. My heart has always been with rescue. So many pets need homes. There’s history with this guy, but nothing I was afraid of tackling. Onward to a wonderful life together!
