I put my cute on. I knew how to work it. If someone was coming over to my foster home to meet me, I was the bestest dog ever.

Foster Mom: I wasn’t sure Charlie Bear was ready for adoption, but we were willing to give it a try. His rescuer, Ryoko, and I interviewed applicants. The ones who looked promising were invited to visit with Charlie at our home.

The first was a young lady who wanted to take me into her arms, curl me up as her cuddly lap dog, and maybe even carry me in a purse. Hey, I could dig that. Get fed treats all day, maybe shop on Rodeo Drive, wear a glitzy collar, and eat caviar. Bring it on!

Foster Mom: Charlie Bear was definitely not going to be cradled like a baby in someone’s arms all the time. I could just see him throwing his fits and spinning when he didn’t get the type of caviar he wanted.

Drat. That purse dog thing didn’t work out. Okay, let’s go on to the next. This was a youngish couple who were looking for their first dog. They fell in love with my picture. Hey, who wouldn’t?

Foster Mom: This couple came over and played with Charlie pretty well. Even though they were new to having a dog in their household, I considered that it might work out. Then they told me about their upcoming plans: out-of-town company coming for three weeks just before Christmas, and then they were leaving on a two-week vacation soon after.

Board me? Put me in a kennel for two weeks? You’ve gotta be kidding. If you think I was stressed before, you’d better watch out if you tried to board me in a cage for weeks. My foster mom had worked with me to establish a routine. As she said in her own words, “This would not be a good fit.” I had to agree.

So, no one was working out. More people who came to see me either decided I wasn’t the one, or they were turned away by my foster mom and dad. Would I ever get a forever home?
