Charlie Bear here.

What is today?

Charlie Bear with American Flag 009

Veterans Day. It’s our day to honor those who have helped to keep our country safe.

I especially appreciate that. Can you just imagine a place where you had to hide from attacks? Where you had to scrounge for food? Where you didn’t know where you would sleep at night?

Some of that is what I experienced in my formative first year on the streets in Los Angeles. I had to hide from big dogs who I thought were going to attack me. It’s what makes me bark so ferociously whenever I see them on the street. Hopefully they get scared of me before they decide to run up and attack me.

Then there’s the scrounging for food part. I had to look in all the dumpsters and trash cans I could climb into. Mostly, I foraged for leftover wrappers from fast food restaurants where the people didn’t quite finish their burger.

And I never knew where I would sleep at night. Sometimes under a bush, sometimes in a grassy park, but never out in the open. That was too scary. An animal control officer could come around and try to snatch me, or a mean dog could try to bite me.

Aaaaahhhhh…..the blissful sense of peace I have now in a home where my Peeps love me.

Memorial Day Flag

It’s the same kind of peace all of us Americans (dog and human) have when we know we won’t be attacked on the street or have to scrounge for food or wonder where we are going to sleep. Some of the homeless in our country do have these issues, and I hope that we all can continue to give as much as we can┬áso that they can have a bed, a meal, and a little peace.

Happy Veteran’s Day to our soldiers in combat, here at home who have returned, and those getting ready to serve. Thank you all.

Woofs to you,
Charlie Bear

Beautiful, Charlie. Tell Mom Peep that I was moved. My father served in WWII and spent 3 years in hospitals before he came home to us. I was a little girl. My husband also served. I am so proud of both of them and all veterans and you, too, Charlie Bear.

      Jean,
Your family has given a lot by serving our country. Thank them. Love them, those that are still here, and those in heaven who help us from above.

      Shawnelle,
How’s the new pup working out? I remember when I first came here to live, I was so terrified of everything new that I misbehaved a lot. Hope your new addition is better than me!
      Wiggles to you both,
      Charlie Bear
