Like most dog owners, you’ve no doubt learned that some toys simply don’t appeal to your dog the way others do. Why is that?
Dogs are smart creatures – so they need a toy that is designed to hold their attention. If a toy doesn’t keep a dog actively entertained, your dog will soon lose interest in it. When our Golden Lab Rex was young, I was always looking for toys to keep him entertained.
Dr. Jon from PetPlace reported this in his newsletter:
Dr. Debra from PetProductAdvisor.com sent me a new toy that she just raved about. It’s called The Doggie Bag. One of the vets on her team has 5 dogs (4 boxers and a little French Bulldog), so she took this toy home to them to test. All of the dogs just loved it. They all played with it together for a long time. But the little bulldog decided this toy was her absolute favorite – and she refused to let it out of her sight! (She’s so much smaller than her brother and sisters, but when she makes up her mind about something, that’s it!)
After hearing how much these dogs enjoyed this toy, I expected it to be a popular toy for other dogs. Still, when I gave it to the dogs at the clinic to play with, I was really surprised by how much fun they had with it! They simply wouldn’t leave it alone. And it was so funny to watch them playing with it – my staff and I were in stitches.
Here’s what makes this toy so much fun. This battery operated interactive toy has lots of fun sounds and movements. It barks, giggles, wiggles and jumps. But, the dog never knows WHEN it’s going to do it. The Doggie Bag is motion activated, so when your dog comes near it suddenly “springs to life”. When he backs off, the sound and motion stop. And when the dog approaches again, the toy suddenly starts moving and “speaking” again. That “surprise” factor is what holds the dog’s interest and keeps him coming back for more.
The dogs in the clinic were simply mesmerized by this toy – and we couldn’t stop laughing as we watched the dogs trying to figure out what was going on.
The Doggie Bag is a really great toy for hyper dogs because it totally holds their attention and keeps them actively engaged. But ALL dogs enjoy this toy, no matter what age, size or disposition.
Until next time,
P.S. After seeing this toy in action, I couldn’t help but wonder what makes it work. There’s a ball inside the burlap bag. When the toy is turned on and your dog comes near, a mechanism inside the bag moves the ball around and activates the sound. Want to see it in action? Just click on the video below.
