I decided I have a job now. An important one. It’s to bring smiles and laughter back to Mom and Dad. I think I know how to do that.

When Dad gets in his chair I jump on top of him and snuggle in close. He smiles and pets me. That’s an easy one.

When Mom grabs one of my toys and throws it from the family room into the kitchen, I run and chase it and bring it back to her. But I don’t let her have it. She loves to play the chase and grab game with me. She chases me, grabs for my toy, and I run. Around and around the coffee table, up and down onto the sofa, from the family room to the kitchen and back again. We play this “run around” game almost every morning. She laughs when I put all four paws out and fly off the couch, getting “air” like in basketball.

We play ball outside now too. She’d kept the tennis balls hidden in the garage all those months because Rex the big dog was too old to play with them. He thought he could run and chase like he did when he was young, but his arthritis caused him to hobble if he exerted himself. Now, the rough, no-longer-yellow-but-still-good, tennis balls came out. Boy, how I love the ball! I chase it, skid on the patio when I get close, and grab it in my mouth. Mom laughs if I miss and come up empty, but shhhhh….she doesn’t know I do that on purpose to make her giggle.

So life goes on at our house. A little different. A little somber. But I’m trying my best to put the fun back into life for them. And for me too. I’m a willful, pigheaded, mulish little mutt but Mom and Dad love me. And I love them.

I plan on startling them every once in a while with new tricks. Just you wait and see what this whippersnapper of a dog has in store. I think they’ll be surprised. Joyful love and abandon will again rule this roost. I know that would make Rex very happy.

Woofs and Wiggles to you Rex. You’ll never be forgotten.
Love, Charlie Bear

      Marianne,
My Mom Peep thinks it is so sweet of you to post about our blog. She loves what you wrote about us and thanks you immensely. She thinks you have to put in bjtaylorblog.(dot)wordpress.com instead of the @ “at” sign, but she didn’t want to point it out and make you feel bad. She’s just happy you wrote about us at all!
We love posting and will continue to write more in upcoming months. Stay tuned! We want to keep in touch too!
      Woofs and Wiggles to you,
      Charlie Bear

      John,
I’m so happy you found our blog. But not to fear, Charlie Bear is here! (I couldn’t resist that – sorry.) Anyway…we won’t be ending our posts, just the saga of my rescue/foster/adoption. And since we’re now putting that into a book (and lots more stuff too), if you want you’ll be able to read about it later on this year. In the meantime, I’ll be posting lots of dog-related stuff and Mom Peep will be posting book reviews of dog kinds of books. And then there will be the summer fun-loving dog pictures, and much, much more. Stay tuned!
      Woofs and wiggles to you,
      Charlie Bear

I can’t wait for you to read my book. Well, okay, maybe it won’t be ONLY about me, but I like to think I’m the star. Stay tuned for news on that front.

      Crosby and GrandMom Jean,
Mom Peep and I are working hard on the book. She’s finding lots more stuff to put in it than I thought she would. Good. It will be better because of it.
      Woofs to you both,
      Charlie Bear

Hope the book writing is fun for your ” peep Mom”. Keep them playing, Charlie! All work and no play makes a very tired and grumpy “peep Mom” and “peep Dad”.
    Love,

      Rascal and Susan,
You’ve got that right — I MUST have my play time each day. Just this morning I grabbed my turtle and raced around the family room with it, Mom Peep on my heels. She likes that. I try to do the growling thing while I play and even bark sometimes, but she’s having none of that. It scares her I think so when she tells me no or shush, I shush. I can adapt.

Dear Charlie Bear, PLEASE don’t stop posting. At least, send a picture and a woof or two our way every once in a while.
And I’m so glad you are calling your peeps “Mom” and “Dad.” You’ve finally found yourself a good home. I know they love you to death. Love them back. They need you so much to help them through the loss of your furbrother.
    Yours truly, Honey Bunny

      Honey Bunny,
Just for you I won’t stop posting entirely. I’m only done with the saga of my rescue/foster/adoption, but I think I have more to say. In fact, I KNOW I have lots more to say. Stay tuned!
      Woofs to you,

So glad you’re cheering up your mom and dad, Charlie Bear. You’re right — Rex would want that.

Help your mom with that book. Can’t wait to read it.

Emmy, Zoe and Lucy (and Mom),
Mom Peep has been pounding away on the keyboard writing that book. She’s focused and into it. That’s good. It keeps her mind off of missing Rex so much. I’m doing my best to keep her cheered up.
      Woofs to all of you,
      Charlie Bear

      Toni,
I will miss posting on my Life Before Adoption (LBA) and Life After Adoption (LAA). I liked having a “voice” in this world since all I can do is bark and growl when I want to be heard. But that’s okay. I’ll find things I can share in the days and weeks ahead and I’ll get Mom to post them for me. Stay tuned!
      Woofs,
      Charlie Bear
